A Midsummer Day of Creativity
Thursday 26th June · 10am – approx. 3:45pm
Only six places available · £75 (beta price)
A few days after the summer solstice, I’ll be opening the doors of the studio for something a little different – a gentle, seasonal workshop that blends walking, making, and responding to midsummer through fibre.
This is the beta edition of a new format I’m developing: a slow, creative day rooted in the land, shaped by the season, and designed to give you space to explore your own rhythm of making.
🌼 Walk the land, gather the season
We’ll begin with tea and an introduction to solar dyeing, before setting off on a guided walk led by Ed Green, whose family have cared for the land around the studio for generations. Ed now leads rewilding and conservation work here and is a former trustee of Somerset Wildlife Trust.
As we walk, Ed will introduce us to the landscape, seasonal changes, and plants that grow just beyond the door. With luck, we’ll gather a few forage-friendly dye materials to bring back to the studio.
🌞 Solar dyeing and slow making
After a light seasonal lunch, we’ll layer the morning’s findings – alongside dried materials I’ll provide – into solar dye jars. Each person will receive a 100g skein of alpaca/wool yarn from a local farm, a Kilner jar, and a selection of plant materials to work with. The jar will sit in the sun throughout the afternoon, and you’ll take it home to finish steeping.
(I’ll be opening mine on the Autumn Equinox.)
🎨 A quiet afternoon of creativity
We’ll then settle in for an open-ended making session – a chance to respond to the day however you like. You’ll have access to materials for:
-
Weaving (with a small loom to keep)
-
Embroidery
-
Needle felting
-
Knitting or crochet (with optional stitch suggestions)
There’s no right or wrong way to approach it – you’re welcome to work in one medium, combine them all, or simply play with colour and texture. I’ll be on hand with gentle guidance throughout.
✨ A thank-you for helping shape something new
This is a trial run of what I hope will become a regular part of the year’s rhythm – and I’d love for you to be part of shaping it. The day is priced at £75 as a beta offering.
Future versions will likely be priced around £120, to reflect the full value of the experience and materials included.
There are just six spaces available for this first session.
