Casting On with Beara: Pattern Ideas to Try
I’ve just finished a simple, slouchy hat in Beara, the new yarn by Hey Mama Wolf, (it just needs blocking) and I’m so enthused by this yarn that I’m already planning my next project. I’ll be writing up this easy pattern soon, so keep an eye out if you’d like to try it yourself.
Beara is a brand new yarn and so there aren't any dedicated patterns available yet, although I've seen some fantastic designers mention on Instagram that they are busy working away on new designs for Beara. I can't wait to see what they come up with!
In the meantime, I’ve been browsing Ravelry and picked out a few patterns I think would work beautifully with Beara. For each one I’ve given two link options: Ravelry and an alternative source, so you can choose whichever works best for you. I’ve also created a Ravelry bundle with several more ideas (by no means exhaustive!) if you’d like extra inspiration.
As I mentioned in my previous blog, Beara works nicely at different gauges — from heavy DK up to aran – depending on the fabric you’d like to achieve, and I’d love to hear your own suggestions too. Patterns with positive ease really allow Beara’s drape to shine, while simpler stitches highlight its tweedy texture — but it also has enough stitch definition, especially in the solid shades, to make textured and cable patterns pop.

And if you’d like more inspiration, don’t forget I’ve put together a Ravelry bundle with extra ideas – mostly knitting, but a few crochet designs too. I haven’t test-knitted these patterns in Beara myself, but I’ve compared the gauges and yarn recommendations to judge whether Beara is a good fit.
As always, I recommend swatching carefully (wash and dry your swatch too!) to be sure you like the fabric you’ll create. Remember to check the meterage requirements the pattern to figure out how many skeins of Beara you’ll need. If you need any help with that, just drop us an email.
